Workspace creation policy
Series policies allow all members of a certain Roblox group to create a workspace for that specific group. We've always allowed this, ever since our first iteration. If someone is part of a Roblox community, they will be able to create a Series workspace for that community.
What does the official/unofficial badge mean?
To ensure people don't abuse this ability to impersonate the official community staff, we have implemented a badge that will show up when a workspace is displayed in the dashboard. The badge is easy to spot and helps users identify whether they are part of a workspace created by the group owner, or one that is created by someone else.
Here's what an official workspace looks like. The blue "Official" text indicates the fact that this workspace was created or is managed by the community's officials.
Here's what an unofficial workspace looks like. The grey "Unofficial" text indicates the fact that this workspace was created by someone other than the group owner.
Those tags also appear when accessing the workspace itself. It is located in the top bar of the page, right below the workspace name.
How is a workspace marked as official/unofficial?
When creating a new workspace, we will compare the user with the group owner. If they are two different users, the workspace will be automatically set as unofficial. Only workspaces created by the user who also owns the group will be marked as official.
When creating a workspace for a group that you do not own, in the last step of the creation process, you will see a notice explaining that the workspace will appear as unofficial, due to the fact that the group is not owned by you.
What if I own the group with a different Roblox account?
As you may imagine, if your group is held by a different Roblox account that the one that you use to create the workspace on Series, the workspace will be marked as unofficial. There are numerous scenarios where communities use holder accounts, or have their staff or developers handle the workspace creation for them.
If this is the case, we expect the Roblox group owner (or a rank with authority) to message us via the live chat or [email protected]. Our support team is able to mark the workspace as official, if that's the case.
Purpose
Many people ask why we just disallow people to create workspaces for groups they don't own. The answer is simple. As mentioned above, some communities, especially large ones, may have the group owned by a holder account. Some other communities may have the co-owner set up the workspace. There are also scenarios where some groups decide to use 2 or more workspaces for several ranks. For instance, lower ranks have their own workspace, and higher ranks use a different one.
